The Louisiana State Poetry Society (LSPS) was established on October 9, 1954, by two Baton Rouge women, Mary Berthelot Wall and Ethel Harvey. Their purpose for developing LSPS was “to promote and further the interest and appreciation of poetry and the poetic spirit.”
Mary Berthelot Wall also founded the National Federation of State Poetry Societies (NFSPS) on October 17, 1959. Members of LSPS receive the national newsletter Strophes and are eligible to enter contests sponsored by NFSPS. Winners are announced at the National Convention held each June.
We invite you to experience the spirit of poetry through LSPS.
